Understanding Assigned Content & Overrides
Learn the difference between a screen's default assigned content and temporary overrides like schedules and broadcasts.
Overview
You may occasionally notice that a screen's Assigned Content is different from its Now Playing content.
This is normal when an override is active.
Assigned Content
Assigned Content is the screen's default.
Example:
Screen: Resort Lobby Display
Assigned Content: Resort Welcome Playlist
This is what the screen normally plays.
Now Playing
Now Playing shows what currently has control.
If no override exists:
Assigned Content: Resort Welcome Playlist
Now Playing: Resort Welcome Playlist
What Is an Override?
An override temporarily replaces the screen's normal content.
Depending on your Digipal features, overrides can include:
- Schedules;
- Broadcasts;
- Smart Triggers;
- other supported override functions.
The normal assignment remains saved.
Default Assigned Content underneath temporary Override
Schedule Example
A restaurant normally plays:
Restaurant Promotions
At 4:00 PM, a scheduled:
Dinner Menu
takes over.
The screen may show:
Assigned Content: Restaurant Promotions
Now Playing: Dinner Menu
Broadcast Example
Exact Broadcast behavior to be added when Broadcasts documentation is reviewed
Smart Trigger Example
Exact Smart Trigger behavior to be added when Smart Triggers documentation is reviewed
What Happens When an Override Ends?
Once the active override ends, the screen can return to its normal Assigned Content.
Default → Override → Default Returns
Tips
If a screen is not showing what you expect:
- Check Assigned Content.
- Check Now Playing.
- If they are different, look for an active Schedule, Broadcast, Smart Trigger, or other override.
