Assigned Content vs Now Playing

Why a screen's assigned content and Now Playing can differ, and how schedules and overrides affect what is on screen.

Overview

Assigned Content and Now Playing answer two different questions.

Assigned Content: What should this screen normally play?

Now Playing: What currently has control?

Assigned Content

Assigned Content is the screen's default content.

Example:

Hotel Lobby Display

Assigned Content:

Hotel Welcome Playlist

Now Playing

Now Playing shows what Digipal currently expects to be displayed.

Most of the time, this may be the same as Assigned Content.

How Overrides Work

Features such as:

  • Schedules;
  • Broadcasts;
  • Smart Triggers;

can temporarily override the default assignment.

Default Content → Override Starts → Override Plays → Override Ends → Default Content Returns

Example

A hotel's lobby normally displays:

Assigned Content: Hotel Welcome Playlist

At 7:00 AM, a breakfast schedule begins.

The screen may then show:

Assigned Content: Hotel Welcome Playlist

Now Playing: Breakfast Promotion

When the schedule ends, Digipal returns to the normal assigned content.

Tips

If a screen appears to be showing something different from Assigned Content, check Now Playing first.

An active override may explain the difference.
