Design Studio V2: Build Any Screen Experience with 35 Widget Types

When we started rebuilding Design Studio from the ground up, the goal was simple: make it possible for anyone on a marketing team to design, publish, and iterate on screen content without opening a support ticket. Version 2 is that product. It is faster, more flexible, and ships with a widget library that covers almost every content use case we have seen across our customer base.

What Ships in V2

Design Studio V2 is a full-featured visual editor for digital signage and interactive kiosk content. It runs entirely in the browser, requires no plugin installation, and is included in every Digipal plan. At its core is a Fabric.js canvas with snapping, layering, alignment guides, and multi-select. You can build anything from a simple promotional slide to a multi-page interactive kiosk flow without leaving the editor.

The Widget Library

Widgets are the building blocks of every design. V2 ships with more than 35 types grouped into five categories. Rather than locking you into a single content format, the widget system lets you mix media, data, and interactive elements on the same canvas.

  • Media: images, videos, PDFs, embedded websites, animated GIFs
  • Data: live clocks, countdowns, weather (powered by wttr.in), real-time RSS feeds, social media feeds including Instagram
  • Layout: shapes, dividers, background fills, QR codes, digital menu boards
  • Interactive: touch buttons, form inputs, navigation links for kiosk flows
  • Repeater: data-bound list widgets that pull from a configured data source and render one card per row

The repeater widget is the most powerful addition in V2. Connect it to a Google Sheet, a REST endpoint, or a Digipal data source, and it will render a grid or list of cards that update automatically whenever the source changes. Common uses include product listings, event schedules, leaderboards, staff directories, and live pricing boards.

The Template Library

Starting from a blank canvas takes time. The V2 template library ships with professionally designed starting points across 15 industries, including retail, food service, hospitality, healthcare, corporate, fitness, education, real estate, transportation, and events.

Each template is fully editable. Swap colours, upload your logo, and replace placeholder text without touching the layout. Templates are also available in landscape, portrait, and square orientations to match your physical screen setup. You can also save any design as a personal template and share it with your workspace team.

Kiosk Designer

The kiosk designer shares the same canvas as the standard Design Studio but adds a navigation layer. You define screens, link interactive elements to other screens, and publish a multi-page touch experience to any compatible display. Transitions between screens are configurable, and you can set a timeout to return to the home screen after a period of inactivity.

A common setup is a home screen with category tiles that each navigate to a product listing screen. The repeater widget handles the product list, so updating a Google Sheet is all it takes to refresh what customers see. No republish, no manual update, no support ticket.

Data Sources

V2 introduces a unified data source panel where you configure connections once and reuse them across widgets on the same design. Supported sources include REST APIs with optional authentication headers, Google Sheets via a shared link, and the Digipal content library. The panel lets you preview the response and map fields to widget slots before publishing.

Design Translations

For operators who run screens in multiple languages, V2 includes a translation panel. Upload a translation file for each locale, and Design Studio will swap out text content for the correct language based on the screen's configured locale. The layout adapts automatically to accommodate different text lengths, so you do not need to maintain separate designs for each language.

Getting Started

Design Studio V2 is available from the Content section of your Digipal dashboard. Select New Design, choose a template or start blank, and start building. When your design is ready, assign it to any screen or add it to a playlist for scheduled display. Publishing takes seconds and updates all assigned screens within the next player sync cycle.
