How to Pair a Screen for the First Time in Digipal

Pairing a screen is the first practical step in every Digipal deployment. It connects a physical display to your dashboard so you can push content, monitor status, and manage the screen remotely. The process is the same whether you are setting up one screen in a small office or rolling out a hundred displays across multiple sites.

Supported Player Types

  • Android TV devices (the recommended player for most installations)
  • Samsung Tizen smart TVs running the Digipal Samsung app
  • LG webOS smart TVs running the Digipal webOS app
  • Windows PC, macOS, and Linux desktop players
  • Any browser — open the Digipal TV URL directly in Chrome or Chromium on any device

Step 1: Install the Player App

On an Android TV device, open the Google Play Store and install the Digipal TV Player app. On Samsung and LG displays, the app is available from the respective app stores on those platforms. For Windows, macOS, and Linux, download the desktop player from the Downloads section of your Digipal dashboard. For a quick browser-based setup, navigate to the TV player URL shown in your dashboard settings directly in any Chromium browser.

Step 2: Get the Pairing Code

Launch the Digipal player app on your device. A six-character pairing code appears on screen. This code is unique to that device and is valid for 15 minutes. If it expires before you complete pairing, the app will generate a new one automatically.

Step 3: Enter the Code in Your Dashboard

  • Open the Screens section of your Digipal dashboard and click Pair New Screen
  • Enter the six-character code shown on your display
  • Give the screen a name — something descriptive like 'Lobby Screen' or 'Store 3 – Front Window'
  • Assign it to a screen group if you have one configured (optional — you can do this later)
  • Click Pair to complete the connection

Step 4: Assign Content

With the screen paired, click Assign Content from the screen card or open the screen's detail page. You can assign a single piece of content, a playlist, or leave it unassigned to use a default fallback. The content begins playing on the device within seconds of assignment — there is no manual sync step required.

Setting Up Kiosk Mode

If you are deploying an unattended public display, enable kiosk mode from the screen settings. On Android TV, kiosk mode prevents users from exiting the player app, disables the home button, and can lock the device to a specific orientation. Kiosk mode is configured from the screen's Remote Settings panel in your dashboard — no physical access to the device is required after initial setup.

Troubleshooting: Screen Not Appearing

  • Pairing code expired: the app will show a new code automatically — enter the new code in the dashboard
  • Screen paired but shows offline: check that the device has a working internet connection and can reach the Digipal servers
  • Content not updating: confirm the screen is online in the dashboard; if it is, try the Force Refresh command from the Remote Control panel
  • Blank screen after pairing: ensure content has been assigned — an unassigned screen shows a branded waiting state by default
